Our Best Advice for Canna-Curious Beginners
This article is for those of you who have never been particularly drawn to cannabis, but suddenly find yourself curious about Wims. Maybe a friend has been raving about the floaty feeling it unlocks, or maybe you’re on a mission to enjoy a Friday buzz sans Saturday hangover. Maybe you’re also a little stuck on the stigma that surrounds cannabis, or hesitant about how it might affect you.
If you’re feeling any combination of these things, you wouldn’t be the first. Many people who say they find edibles overwhelming, or feel paranoid when smoking, have been pleasantly surprised to discover they love Wims. Believe it or not, even our founder wasn’t much of a cannabis consumer before she created Wims. There’s just something about this particular formula and format that makes for a distinctly balanced, delightfully uplifting, perfectly serene high. But we’re not here to push Wims on you—we just want to give you all the information you need to decide whether it’s right for you, and (if the answer is yes) set you up for the most marvelous experience possible.
1. A Proper Introduction
However it is that you came to be curious about Wims, it’s best to start off with a proper introduction. Wims is a concentrated, cannabis-based tonic meant to mix with any drink. It comes in a little packet that you can stir into juice, tea, sparkling water, mocktails, or any other beverage you please. Each serving contains exactly 4 mg of THC, and 4 mg of CBD. Both are naturally occurring cannabis compounds, which we extract to make a perfectly precise dose. CBD brings a subtle, grounded calm, while THC delivers the elevating, activating high that cannabis is known for. Together, they complement one another for a buzz that feels steady, upbeat, and glowy.
2. Out With the Stigmas
Not so long ago, some powerful people did a very purposeful job promoting the idea that cannabis is dangerous, makes you lazy, and acts as a gateway to future substance abuse. Those ideas are harmful myths. The truth is, cannabis can take less of a toll on your body than alcohol, especially when it’s sipped instead of smoked and consumed responsibly in moderation. If those old stigmas have left you with any lingering traces of guilt or shame around using cannabis, let that go before you try Wims. What you really should feel is proud about making a choice that’s right for you.
3. Finding Your Format
The fact that you’re reading this article means you’re probably already leaning towards drinking your cannabis instead of smoking or eating it. Delightful! There are a few reasons drinkables are our personal favorite format for cannabis, especially for those who are new to it. For obvious reasons, smoking isn’t exactly the friendliest choice for your lungs. Edibles are a good alternative, but can set in slowly and linger long. We prefer drinkables, which typically take effect within 15 minutes, and wear off around the 2-3 hour mark, making them a great option for a light, low-commitment buzz.
4. Your Perfect Dose
If you’ve rarely (or never) indulged in cannabis, you might think being high is like an “on” and “off” switch: you either are or you aren’t. Actually, the spectrum of intensity is quite similar to alcohol. There’s a big difference between having a glass of wine, and binge drinking seventeen beers. Similarly, the size of your cannabis dose dictates the intensity of your experience. Wims is designed to be on the lighter side, with many of our customers saying a single dose feels on par with a glass of wine: similar in intensity, though different in the particular sensations that define the buzz. Some of our favorite words people use to describe the feeling are floaty, chill, bright, and giggly. That said, different bodies react differently to cannabis, and the only way to know how sensitive you are personally is to experiment! If this is your very first time using cannabis, a half-dose can be a great place to start. Might we turn you on to the good old Mix and Split?
5. Set and Setting
Set and setting are commonly discussed in relation to intense psychedelic substances, like psilocybin or LSD, but the principles are useful for cannabis as well. Set refers to your mindset, mood, expectations—all the complexities of your internal world. Setting refers to the external world: your environment, the people you’re with, the music that’s on, even the lighting. Together, they set the context for your buzz, and have a huge effect on the quality of your experience. If you’re new to cannabis, you should plan to go in informed, intentional, open, and comfortable. Do a little research (like reading this article!), shed the stigmas, and choose company and an environment that will make you feel at ease. For your very first time, that probably means indulging with a close friend or two, somewhere you’re comfortable getting silly, like your own living room. Later, you can enjoy the delight of mixing Wims with a concert, a movie, a night at the bar—but when you’re new to it, our recommendation is to keep things simple and familiar.
6. Embrace the Feels
We could—and have—tried to describe the feeling of Wims, but it’s kind of like trying to explain the flavor of chocolate to a person who’s never tasted chocolate. You can paint a semi-accurate picture, but when you experience it for yourself it’s more vivid, unique, and rich than words can accurately represent. When it comes to cannabis, it’s good to go in with a loose idea of what’s in store, but don’t hold too tight to your expectations. Instead, try to stay as open as possible. Lean into the new feeling that’s blooming. Remember, this is something you researched, vetted, and chose with intention. Even though it’s unfamiliar, know that you can comfortably sit back, trust the process, and enjoy the wonderful pleasures of a boozeless buzz.
