Wims a la cinema at the pace of life

Welcome to Wims A La, where we share our favorite pastimes and pleasures to pair with a glass of Wims. This edition is all about relaxation, and leaning into that present, peaceful feeling Wims unlocks.

When you’re craving calm, one of the best things to enjoy is Slow TV. Dreamt up in Norway, Slow TV is the antithesis of typical cinema: There’s no plot, no characters, and no gripping action—just delightfully mundane activities, unfolding slowly, for hours on end. So stir up a glass of Wims, make yourself comfortable, and allow us to introduce you to three of our favorite programs from this slow, soothing genre.

The Birds’ Morning Brew

If you like chirps, feathers, and charming miniature interiors, this program is for you.

Moving between two settings—one, a bird-sized coffee shop complete with barstools, a coffee machine, and a letter board menu; the other a charming apartment with striped wallpaper and framed art—birds of all shapes, colors, sizes, and ages pop by for a visit. Nothing else happens. It’s just sweet birds in adorable spaces, serving up 14 hours and 15 minutes of wholesome calm.

A (Very) Slow Burn

To keep your warm, we have Norway’s National Wood Night.

This captivating, cozy program is not only a Wims fan favorite, but one of the most popular Slow TV programs across Norway. There’s something incredibly calming about watching logs crackle, burn, and turn from ember to ash for 12 hours straight. It’s so peaceful, you can almost feel the fire’s warmth emanating from the TV.

From Sheep, To Sweater

This program begins with a sheep, who arrives with a cloud-like coat of fleecy wool.

Over the course of eight hours and 39 minutes, we watch as its wool is methodically sheared (the sheep seems unbothered by this and, when asked to comment, turns to the camera with a gaze of pure calm), spun into yarn, and knit into cloth. Stitch by stitch, row by row, we watch the knitters’ slow, mesmerizing progress. In the end they create a sweater—but it’s the process, not the product, that makes the program so captivating.

Much like Wims, we love Slow TV for the way it invites us to savor the small things. It’s a beautiful reminder to slow down, be still, and find delight in the everyday. And it just so happens to pair perfectly with the pleasant, present sensation Wims delivers.
